October in a Nutshell

One afternoon I let Chloe go outside to go play at the barn as she does every afternoon. Sometimes she would come back before dark, but almost always she is back before we go to bed. Well this time she didn’t. There have been times I’ve let her in at 3 in the morning and if not then she is ALWAYS at the door by morning. This time I woke up to no Chloe. I thought, “Well it was a cold night she must be waiting for it to warm up before she ventures out of the warm place she’s sleeping in.” I went about the morning got the kids off to school and Katya, Gammon and I went for our monthly shopping trip. When we returned home still no Chloe. I was thinking oh no she’s not coming back. Friday night after taking the kids to Sizzler we came home and told the kids we didn’t think Chloe was coming back. Many tears were shed and we talked and laughed about our memories of her. Saturday we went to the Humane Society to see if she had been picked up. She was not there. We decided to go look at kittens and Joseph talked me into getting a new kitten. She was not able to come home with us that day because she still needed to be spayed. We went home and as I was feeding Gammon I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I looked up and Yep you guessed it, Chloe was back. She was gone for about 48 hours. She was pretty jumpy, but other than that she was fine. So we are now a 2 cat family. Shasta and Chloe are getting along okay. Chloe still hisses at Shasta if she darts at her to play, but they are getting used to each other. The funny thing is a week before Chloe’s disappearance Joseph tried to talk me into getting another cat. The Humane Society was giving them out for free. I said “No” Chloe was enough. Well I guess Heavenly Father made a way for another one of his animals to have a home.

Gammon has learned to roll over and does so all the time, however he does not like to lay on the floor to play. He likes to be upright like everyone else in the family. He loves the saucer and is getting coordinated at playing with the toys on it. He is getting cuter by the minute. He has started eating a bit of cereal and loves it. This past week I took him to the ER because his temperature was very low and the internet warned of kidney failure or the body shutting down. It turned out he was fine, but was probably just fighting a viral infection.

Joseph had an endoscopy done on his throat. There was a narrowing and so they dilated it to help with his swallowing issue. It has made a big improvement.

The kids had a day off of school last Friday. I took them to the Discovery Center. It’s a hands on museum with all sorts of science experiments. We were there for 2 ½ hours and I still had to drag them out of there. Brigham was trying everything.

We had another fun visit to the Pumpkin Patch.

I spent a lot of the month sewing/designing Halloween costumes. I had to make the Tin Man and Scarecrow costume. Someone from South Jordan gave us the Dorothy Costume. I also made new trick or treat bags for the kids. Brigham told me their pumpkins just weren’t big enough anymore. Halloween was a blast. We carved pumpkins in the afternoon before getting costumes on. The kids were the talk of the town. We didn’t pass by anyone without them commenting on their costumes, even the 10 and 11 year olds were noticing them. Brigham was pretty proud.

And Toto Too!

Kyler was asked to sing at a Baptism on Saturday. She did a great job. It amazes me that she doesn’t get nervous at all. I on the other hand shake the entire time she’s performing.

Brigham will be getting his tonsils out tomorrow. This will solve his sleep apnea, constant nasal drainage, hearing in his left ear and in the end he should be able to breath through is nose. It will be weird to not hear Darth Vadar breathing at night, and I’m excited about that.
