Before the move...
Summer kicked off with a trip to Island Park, ID. We went there with 2 families that we met back in college when we were all young marrieds. We all have 12 and 10 year old boys. They have a lot of fun together. We had a great time. Some of the group floated down the river. We enjoyed the 4 wheelers and cabin. The boys really liked the separate bunk house.
Gammon turned 4 and didn't want a cake this year. All he wanted was ice cream cones. We invited our friends over for the evening and had a fun time with them.
Brigham turned 12 and enjoyed a night at the movies with a couple of friends. He also pooled his money, our birthday money and grandma's b-day money and bid on and won an i-pod touch on ebay.
Kayta turned 8 and celebrated early with a Cowgirl birthday party, then I surprised her with a horse riding lesson. Man did she go crazy when we pulled into the horse training place. She also got the roller blades that she has wanted for a year.
On the 4th of July Kyler sang in the Star city Celebration talent competition. She had previously tried out and was a finalist in her age group. She won first place and $100.00. She had the judges giving her a standing ovation as well as wiping away tears. She sang a song called, "America, My Home."
As you all know Katya was baptized on July 6th. It was a very special baptism shared by her cousin. Following the baptism Brigham was ordained a Deacon. He is enjoying YM's.
It took the movers 2 days to pack our things and another long day to load. In fact we left before they were done. The driver told us to go ahead and they would finish up and sweep the garage out for us. We were glad that we left because they were there until 8:00 that night. We left at 4:00.
Saying Goodbye to our Favorite Sister Watts. She made all the kids a tie-dye shirt for a going away present.
All piled in a ready to go. Next stop Lawrenceville, GA
A little blurry. My camera got water in it.
The Peach state has been treating our family well so far. We left Star on July 10th and were on the road for 6 days before arriving in Georgia on July 15th. We camped out on the floor for 2 days before our stuff arrived. We were greeted by wonderful Southern Hospitality in our neighbors. Offering us air mattresses, blankets and anything else we needed. One neighbor even welcomed us with a $50.00 grocery store gift card. Amongst the hospitality we were greeted with several. kids in the neighborhood between 7 and 12. The kids have never enjoyed so many friends in the neighborhood.
Unpacking. Every jar was wrapped in paper. 2 Hours of everyone unwrapping jar after jar. Oh the paper party we had.
After just 5 short days of being here Grandma and Grandpa arrived. We were very happy to have them here and show them our new place. They helped A LOT getting the house set up. Grandpa was Mr. Fix It as usual and tended to projects like hanging a rod in Daniel's closet, fixing the tetherball pole and fixing a desk that broke a bit more during the move. Mom helped me get the girls' room organized and unpacked as well as helping out in the basement. We did let them play a little by watching a movie in the theater room. I think that is the kids' favorite room in the house. Last week the girls had a movie party with all the neighbor girls. The boys had already had friends over to watch a movie, but we do need to schedule them an official movie night. There's no reason to have it if you don't share it.
The girls in the backyard right after we got here.
School starts early here and on August 7th the kids were off to school. I am lucky to have all of them transported on a school bus. I can't believe how much gas I am saving. We are really impressed with our elementary school. They have 900 students compared to Star's 500, but that hasn't seemed to bother the kids. They all have wonderful teachers. Unfortanately Daniel's teacher fell in the classroom the first day and ended up missing the first week and a half. She is now back, using a walker, but is starting to get in the swing of things. I was able to transfer Daniel's speech qualification to the new school and the speech therapist will be working with him twice a week instead of once a week. She wants to get it corrected before he goes to middle school next year. AAAH. Speaking of Daniel he is the newest bookworm of the family. Ever since we got him a tutor last January his reading skills have skyrocketed and he actually loves reading. I have never seen him read so much. Even though his teachers always said he was doing fine we could tell that he was barely getting by. He is doing so much better now.
Katya's in the black shirt, pink backpack and side ponytail. Kyler is next her her with her hair down. Daniel is in the back with the blue backpack.
Callings...I was called to serve as RS pianist. Joseph is serving as the Elder's quorum Secretary although he hasn't really started that because he has been 'assigned' to sub early morning seminary until the beginning of October.
Kyler has started Gwinnet Young Singers. It is a choir much like her old choir. She and I have also joined the ward choir. Her because she wants to and me because I'm there with her anyways.
Katya is playing softball. She really likes it. She has been begging since March to play softball. The boys are waiting to start their activities. Daniel is interested in Baseball so he will do that in the spring. (He didn't tell me in time to get him signed up this fall) and Brigham is showing interest in learning to play the drums. He will have to wait until softball is over.
Last week Joseph flew to Idaho Falls for his nephew's wedding. He had a great time visiting with his family.
We are looking forward to a long weekend of sleeping in a bit and maybe we can get out and go do something fun.
